Hanoi Police Return Lost Items to Australian Tourist, Showcasing Dedication and Integrity

In a heartwarming display of integrity and service, police in Hanoi’s Ngoc Ha Ward returned a lost briefcase containing valuable personal items to an Australian national, reinforcing Vietnam’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for international travelers.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 19, when a local resident found a leather briefcase abandoned in Ngoc Ha Ward. Recognizing its potential value, the citizen immediately handed it over to the local police. Upon careful inspection, officers discovered the briefcase contained several high-value items: a laptop, an iPhone, a pair of wireless headphones, and a notebook — all likely to belong to a foreign visitor.
Without delay, the Ngoc Ha Ward Police launched an investigation to trace the rightful owner of the belongings. Their swift and thorough efforts led to the identification of Mr. Piciocco Marris Nicola, an Australian tourist who was visiting Hanoi. Authorities quickly reached out to Mr. Nicola and invited him to the police station to reclaim his lost possessions.
On the afternoon of July 21, Mr. Nicola arrived at the Ngoc Ha Ward Police Station, where his belongings were respectfully returned. Clearly moved, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the officers and the local citizen whose honesty and prompt action helped ensure the safe return of his items. He also commended the professionalism, transparency, and dedication of the Hanoi police force, highlighting the positive impact of their actions on his perception of Vietnam.
“I’m deeply grateful to the Vietnamese people and the officers of Ngoc Ha Ward. It’s not just about getting my belongings back — it’s about feeling safe and cared for in a foreign country,” Mr. Nicola said.
This incident is a shining example of the ongoing campaign in Vietnam titled “Building the image of the People’s Police with bravery, humanity, and dedication to the people.” It underscores the Vietnamese police force’s commitment to serving not just citizens, but also the millions of international visitors who travel to the country each year.
In a time when travel safety and trust are more important than ever, stories like these highlight Vietnam as a safe, responsible, and hospitable travel destination. The Ngoc Ha Ward Police’s efforts go beyond duty — they represent a deep sense of community, service, and honor.
The honest actions of a local resident, combined with the swift response by law enforcement, not only helped a traveler recover valuable possessions but also strengthened the positive global image of Vietnam.
For tourists planning to visit Vietnam, this event serves as a reminder of the country’s warm hospitality and the trustworthy support available to visitors in times of need.
