Baggage Delays Hit Turkish Airlines Flights at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport – Emergency Measures in Place

Passengers arriving at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport on Turkish Airlines flights have faced major baggage delays, prompting immediate action by airport authorities. The disruption, which began on July 25, has led to inconvenience for many travelers, but the airport and airline are actively working to resolve the issue.
The airport’s operator, Northern Capital Gateway (NCG), confirmed that a dedicated emergency task force has been formed to address the growing number of delayed baggage reports. As part of this initiative, NCG has mobilized staff from various departments — including administrative and office teams — to strengthen operations at the Lost & Found department, which is now functioning 24/7 to support affected passengers.
“Incoming baggage is now being sorted by individual flight numbers, secured with numbered security seals, and carefully documented to ensure accuracy,” stated the Pulkovo Airport management. This process is designed to speed up the identification and retrieval of missing bags.
Additionally, NCG has implemented around-the-clock baggage delivery and pickup services for impacted travelers. Claims for missing baggage are being processed on an accelerated timeline, with airport staff coordinating closely with Turkish Airlines representatives to streamline the resolution process.
According to Turkish Airlines, the baggage delays are due to enhanced security checks and additional refueling protocols that were recently introduced for inbound flights. These measures, though important for safety, have led to unintended baggage handling complications. The airline has issued an official apology for the inconvenience caused and urged all passengers who have not received their luggage to immediately file a Lost & Found claim at the airport.
Travelers are advised to retain all baggage claim tags, boarding passes, and related travel documents, which are essential for tracing and recovering delayed luggage. In the meantime, Turkish Airlines has encouraged passengers to submit expense compensation requests via their website, under the “Delayed Baggage” section.
To support timely communication, Pulkovo Airport has set up dedicated hotline numbers where travelers can get real-time updates on their baggage status. The airport authority has assured passengers that every effort is being made to reunite them with their luggage as quickly as possible.
