New research reveals ‘weird to wonderful’ items lost at UK airports everyday

New research from Travel Supermarket has revealed that thousands of ‘weird to wonderful’ items are lost every day at airports across the UK.

According to the research, passengers left behind 26,543 items at the Heathrow Airport lost property alone in the year ending May 2016.

Between May 2015 and 2016, the UK’s busiest airport recorded 381 items as lost in one day and 2,212 every month.

The research also found that Tuesday was the day of the week when Heathrow passengers were ‘most likely’ to lose something.

A statement posted on Travel Supermarket website read: “The treasure trove of lost and found items at airports across the UK extends far beyond the usual suspects such as phones, sunglasses and headphones.”

Some of the items found at Heathrow included a microwave, a roll of carpet, a fishing rod, a bottle of Holy Water Orchid, and sets of dentures.

The research also revealed that 63% of all lost wedding rings were lost at Heathrow, while the 23% of rings were lost at Gatwick airport lost property.

A mix of items, including a dinosaur poster and ceramic bird ornament, were also found at London Gatwick, while many toys were left stranded at London Stansted. Airport lost property Airport lost and found

In the last year, 24% of items reported found in the London City airport were objects with designer brands, such as Dior, Prada and Nicole Fahri.

The lost and found items reported at the UK’s regional airports included a diamond necklace in a brown wooden box, a roll of hand-written calligraphy, a ukulele, a motorbike carburettor and an Arabic string instrument.
