Lost homing pigeon turns up at Bournemouth airport – for second year in a row
THEY’RE known for their intuitive sense of direction which helps carry them home after travelling unimaginable distances.
But it seems that one homing pigeon may need to have its tracking recalibrated after it was found miles from home not once but twice.
The unnamed pigeon was found this same time last year – almost a year to the day – by staff at the industrial site based at Bournemouth Airport lost and found
Facilities and maintenance worker of Drilling Systems UK, Tanya Moss, said she found him slightly injured but was able to contact his owner after identifying him by the serial number clasped to its ankle.
Thinking she’d never see him again she threw away the owner’s details.
But now it’s back and Tanya is once again reaching out to the owner while she tries to lure the pigeon to her with peanuts.
“We managed to catch hold of him, got the number, and contacted the owner,” she said. “He came along with his son, spread its wing and saw it had been hit by a hawk.
“But I couldn’t believe it when I saw it back again. It’s quite valuable apparently but I couldn’t find the owner’s details anywhere. I’ve been out and bought him pigeon food and given him some peanuts – which he likes. But he should be back at home.”
To help reunite this speckled peanut-lover back with its owner please help Tanya by contacting her on 01202 582255.
