A rare look inside Sacramento Airport lost and found

Many of you will be traveling for Labor Day weekend through the Sacramento International Airport .

Some of you may not find your luggage on the carousel or lost other times you brought with you.

We got a rare look inside the airport’s lost and found and took a look at the common and quirky items people have left behind.

If you fly, you might be in the clear.

Some people we talked to say they haven’t lost anything at the airport or bring an overstuffed carry on with everything they could possibly need.

However not everyone is as lucky and the Sacramento Airport lost and found is proof of it.

There are common items like keys, eyeglasses, and cups.

After going back and forth with airport officials for a few weeks, we got a rare look inside.

There are dozens of items found almost on a daily basis while others are a little quirky.

We found what looks like plants people left behind in the cargo offices at an offsite airport location.

“We’ve collected some unusual items here,” says Laurie Slothower, Sacramento County Department of Airports communication and media officer. “We actually had a factory sealed truck bumper somebody left in the seating area. We found a 20 inch chainsaw that was across a ticket counter.”

People have even left behind necessities like canes. There was also a bike.

However not everything that comes here stays here.

“After 30 days we take the low cost toiletries, clothes, books, shoes we take those to Loaves and Fishes and the high value items we take to the sheriff’s department and they auction them,” says Slothower.

The airport also works hard to make sure to return items.
